Today was not a pleasant workout. I wanted to try finding a more trail like route to run near my home so I ventured out in my car and parked near the Klein Creek Farm a couple miles from my home. I set out with my headlamp on and found it difficult to find an actual path I could run on at first. Within the first 5 minutes I hit a couple dead ends that I couldn’t cross for fear of trespassing. Once I finally found a solid route I found myself surrounded by trees with a small lake that connects with the creek. Tonights mission wasn’t so much about going fast but rather focusing on being able to navigate to a destination that is somewhat unknown and then being able to find my way back. I ran into a nasty enemy half way through my run however. Shin splits….they came out of nowhere, I’ve had them many times in the past between tumbling on wood floors at college basketball games and over exertion. I hate shin splints, they are my nemesis, the only thing that can truly hinder me from progressing. As soon as they started to come on I knew I had to make my way back to my car and get home to ice and treat my most hated injury.

I completed approx 3,25 miles and my time sucked due to a few stops to try to evaluate which direction I needed to go to get back to my car. I was happy that I was able to utilize crawling, jumping, ducking, and dodging throughout the run. There were lots of fallen trees and branches everywhere so that was fun at least. As soon as I got back home I started icing, but my workout was far from done. I spent the rest of the evening icing on and off and focusing on my abdominals.
